With the release of the Autodesk 2017 products a “required” license manager update is necessary for the new 2017 product features to be available. We have not determined the cause, but on some servers with either an install or an update of the license manager, starting the service takes quite a long time and then instead of starting a message is shown at the bottom of the Start / Stop / Reread tab – “VD is starting, please check vendor daemon's status in debug log”.

We have yet to determine any commonality when the problem happens – we have seen it on Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2008, Windows 10 Enterprise and it has happened when installing the license manager on a new server or simply upgrading the license manager to the current version; regardless, we have found the fix and it is described below.

Within LMTOOLS identify the service name –

Open the local services –

In the Services window select the License Manager Service > right-click and select Properties –

In the Service Properties window select the Log On tab > change the selection from This Account to Local System Account > pick OK > you can now start your service in LMTOOLS.
